Microchipping

One of the worst feelings a loving pet owner can experience is the flash of panic that comes with having a lost or missing pet…and this experience is more common than you might think. According to the American Humane Society, each year an estimated ten million cats and dogs are reported lost – and what’s worse, a big percentage of these lost pets will never be returned to their owners.

We do all we can to keep them safe, but despite our best efforts there’s always the chance that our beloved pet can become separated from us. And if they’re not collared (or if their collar is lost), it can be very difficult for any rescuers to find and contact a pet owner. In a situation such as this, your only options may be reduced to sharing “missing pet” posts or signs in the neighborhood, or waiting and hoping your pet shows up back on your doorstep. The whole thing can be a scary, heart-wrenching experience for both you and your pet!

Thankfully, Noe Animal Hospital has a great tool to help you to avoid the stress and heartache of a lost pet: Microchipping!

Getting your pet microchipped is the single most effective way to increase your chances of having your pet returned to you if they should become lost, stolen or separated from you. And it’s also easy to do! This microchip is a safe, non-reactive chip encased in glass that’s about the size of a grain of rice. It’s injected just under your pet’s skin, over their shoulder blades, and does not cause pain or discomfort. The chip is not a GPS device, but instead contains coded contact information that when scanned will assist a veterinary office or shelter in contacting you and reuniting you with your beloved pet.
